Being so rigid in their rules and playlist that they couldn't play Elvis' rereleases (Rubbernecking and another)a couple of years back left some of its listeners scratching their heads and having to go elsewhere to hear an Elvis song!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36218590.post-36854082930715773272007-08-14T11:01:00.000-04:002007-08-14T11:01:00.000-04:00To Mademoiselle : Yes and no. I think an exception can be made for select new tracks either by oldies artists (which now, by including '80s in the definition, includes U2, Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, and Sting). Sorta like what happened with Orbison's "You Got It" or Beach Boys' "Kokomo" -- which WCBS was slow in taking up, despite their obvious appeal to the audience.

The other exception is when a "current" artist makes a hit song that clearly fits in with some part of the oldies sound. Back when they were "current", Billy Joel, Lenny Kravitz, and Huey Lewis did this; ones who might do it among now-artists include John Legend and Enrique Iglesias, or anyone who teams up with Santana. Don't wait the usual 5 years. Sometimes, just wait until it de-charts, sometimes take it out of the box.

It can be done, but you must be very careful, especially about the sound of the specific track. Otherwise, the core flees.Bob Longmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14874440096215197147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36218590.post-37218494796133412772007-08-14T03:28:00.000-04:002007-08-14T03:28:00.000-04:00There's a station like that in this area. I see a commercial for it every now and then.

If I ran a struggling "oldies" station, you know what I think I would do?

Try to play music that's more "current". I bet that would work.Mademoisellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04272210541880291350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36218590.post-31917030804848335012007-08-11T14:52:00.000-04:002007-08-11T14:52:00.000-04:00Have you tried out http://www.zooped.com music soc...Have you tried out http://www.zooped.com music social network yet?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
